Everyone has a story worth telling. A newspaper is how the rest of the school finds out.


Create a Newspaper turns your class into a newsroom. Students take on a job — news reporter, sports reporter, lifestyle reporter, editorial writer, advice columnist or cartoonist — then find their stories, write them up, and edit each other's work until the whole thing is ready to print. What comes out the other end is a real newspaper, written by your class, that everyone gets to read.


The skills are hidden inside the fun. Students unpack how a real article is built, plan and draft in the format their job calls for, work as an editor on someone else's writing, and rewrite their own using the notes they get back. Five sample articles show them what good looks like, and ready-made newspaper templates mean the finished paper looks the part.

Every page and stage is optional. Run a short version over four to six lessons, or stretch it across a term as a Friday afternoon unit. Jobs can be shared between several students, so it scales to any class size.
